Then there were three cygnets where there used to be four and the parents were gone

Then there were three, when we first saw this new swan family there were five cygnets. But this evening half the family was missing, they were nowhere to be seen just these three. As they stopped to eat the duck weed two menacing gulls looked on with greedy eyes at three small cygnets… Its unusual for swans to desert their young, having watched cygnets grow up in the past I have observed that like most water fowl they are the most devoted of parents both males and females. We looked all around the first basin with no sign of the missing parents and two cygnets just this little trio.  I will follow this up…
